About Pamela Brown

Registered Social Worker (MSW, RSW)

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself as I am, then I change.

Carl Rogers

People usually come to see me when something has started to feel like too much, whether that’s a change they didn’t choose or stress that won’t let up.

In our sessions, you can talk about what’s actually going on, including the parts you haven’t told anyone else, and I’ll listen without judging.

My Approach to Therapy

I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), along with mindfulness and somatic (body-based) techniques. In practice, that might mean looking at the thoughts that keep you stuck, learning ways to get through strong emotions, or noticing what your body does when you’re stressed.

How we work depends on you. We’ll figure out together what’s helpful, and change course if something isn’t.

Perinatal Mental Health

Much of my work is with people going through fertility treatment, pregnancy, the postpartum period and the early years of parenthood.

People expect these to be happy times, so it can be confusing when what you feel is anxiety, grief or loneliness. For some, getting pregnant involves infertility, pregnancy loss or a medical complication no one saw coming. For others, the pregnancy goes well and it’s the months after the birth that are hard.

I work with:

  • infertility
  • miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy
  • anxiety and depression during pregnancy and after birth
  • changes in how you feel about your body
  • pregnancy later in life
  • stress around feeding
  • adjusting to life as a new parent
